Boston Architectural College Climate Action Plan

Boston, MA

In 2014, Linnean was asked to conduct a carbon emissions inventory for the Boston Architectural College’s properties, with the goal of developing a list of capital projects and operational changes to help the BAC meet its carbon emissions reduction goals. This was the BAC’s first Climate Action Plan, and it put the college on the road to a strong sustainability focus over the subsequent 10 years. Linnean used Retroficiency Automated Energy Audit software to analyze energy use in the properties across all building systems and use patterns, and then defined a set of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs).

These operational changes and capital projects were prioritized by cost, economic payback period, and emissions reductions, and allowed the BAC to integrate energy efficiency into the facilities’ capital plan and to define a 20-year plan for carbon reduction. This work was accomplished in under two months, with input from BAC staff, and produced a strong case for planned capital spending to achieve emissions reductions.
