Ayer and Devens Pocket Forests Pilot Project

Ayer and Devens, MA

Pocket forests are a “blue-green infrastructure” solution that provide many benefits, including improving air quality, infiltrating stormwater, and cooling urban spaces. Throughout the course of this project, Linnean worked with town staff and a team of consultants to engage the community in locating, designing, and planting their first pocket forest, which is already thriving a year later. In addition to planting the pocket forest, the team documented the process to aid in the replication of installations like this one in other communities. This project was a year-long Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness Program (MVP) grant-funded collaboration between the communities of Ayer and Devens and the State of Massachusetts.
