One Climate Future Vulnerability Assessment

Portland and South Portland, ME

From January 2019 – September 2020, Linnean partnered with the cities of Portland and South Portland, ME and a team of subconsultants to create a joint, two-city climate action and adaptation plan, One Climate Future. In the initial phase of the project, Linnean with support from a local engineering firm developed the One Climate Future Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment in order to synthesize the wealth of existing information on climate change in southern Maine and to outline climate risk and vulnerability in the two cities. The Assessment documented downscaled and localized climate projections for temperature, precipitation, and sea level rise; mapped flood risk from sea level rise and storm surge; and outlined potential implications for health and wellbeing, ecosystems, economies, and the cities’ infrastructure systems.

The vulnerability assessment, and particularly the top ten risks identified, drove the climate resilience solutions in the One Climate Future plan.
